British e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool

U.K. NHS uses e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool

The latest example of the United Kingdom as a leader in the field of tobacco harm reduction is that the local National Health Service (NHS) has just issued guidelines on the steps manufacturers must follow to submit products for approval as a smoking cessation tool.

A recent paper clearly pointed out that countries that follow the World Health Organization's smoking cessation guidelines have been struggling to cope with higher smoking rates.

The guidelines were issued by the British Drugs and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in October, stating that any approved e-cigarette products will be provided to doctors for prescriptions. Health Minister Sajid Javiid said: "Whether it is our launch of the COVid-19 vaccine or our innovative public health measures to reduce people's risk of serious illness, this country is still a leader in the global healthcare field."

"Opening the door to licensed e-cigarettes required by the NHS has the potential to address the huge disparity in smoking rates across the country and help people quit smoking, no matter where they live, regardless of their background," Javid added, who has advised him in recent weeks. The smoking ban outside bars and restaurants has been criticized.

The UK remains a world leader in reducing tobacco harm

The World Electronic Cigarette Users Alliance (WVA) and WeVape recently joined forces to praise the British government for adopting science in reducing the harm of tobacco. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) continues to use campaigns and such initiatives to wage war on e-cigarettes and other safer nicotine alternatives, the UK has been a leader in reducing tobacco harm and local smoking rates through progressive e-cigarette policies. To this end, these groups, while praising the British approach, call on the British authorities to urge them to work hard to influence the position of the WHO.

"The UK is a world leader in harm reduction and provides a good example for other parts of the world to effectively quit smoking through e-cigarettes. Our government has chosen a path that has proven to be fruitful and has scientific support. In Before the WHO meeting in November, the UK needs to strengthen its commitment to e-cigarettes and encourage other countries to do the same," said WeVape Director Mark Oates.

Regrettably, the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), which was held last month, ignored all these data and has become synonymous with a banned position that completely ignores the concept of tobacco harm reduction. To make matters worse, the WHO praises countries that have failed to achieve the smoke-free goal (such as India) but have endorsed their framework and ideology, and criticizes countries that have achieved record low smoking rates but have not yet achieved it.

In response to this sentiment, a recent 59-page white paper discussed case studies in several countries aimed at measuring progress related to smoking cessation, clearly showing that countries that follow the guidance of the World Health Organization are struggling to cope with higher smoking rates.
