Russian PM Mishustin promises to consider delegates' proposal to ban vaping

Russian Prime Minister Mishustin promised to consider the representatives' proposal to ban e-cigarettes and form a cabinet position on the issue, according to the Tass news agency.

On Thursday, the speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, made a corresponding request to the prime minister.

The Speaker of the House said: "The government has several issues at the moment and I would like to get feedback here. One such issue is the ban on e-cigarettes. Mikhail Vladimirovich, we need support, the children need to be rescued.

Volodin suggested that the government unite with the deputies on this issue.

"Yes, we will consider it, of course we will form a position," Putin replied.

The prime minister also asked the head of the health ministry, Mikhail Murashko, to turn on the microphone. "We have always supported measures to increase life expectancy and reduce harmful factors," the minister said.

As Volodin pointed out, “Kids are walking around with these devices and no one can answer how harmful they are. The Minister of Health supports us, but his voice is somehow very weak and cannot be heard in the government.” Speech People lamented, adding that the voice of the Treasury Department is stronger and more capable because they matter money.

"You are for a healthy lifestyle ..." Volodin turned to Mishustin, to which the Prime Minister responded: "That's right." "In this case, it's the children's health. The teachers are unequivocal said: Let's do something. Because when they start smoking in class or during recess, those e-cigarettes are taken away, and they pile up on their desks. And then there's no more." "Don't go any further." Go ahead. No one knows what kind of steam evaporators are there,” added the chairman of the State Duma.

According to him, when it comes to children's health, everything else -- in terms of how much money the budget will raise through these vaping -- is out of place.

Earlier, Volodin directed the chamber's health, education and youth affairs committee to prioritize studying the situation with electronic nicotine delivery systems and make recommendations on the possibility of their ban. State Duma Deputy Speaker Peter Tolstoy was entrusted with coordinating this work.

Currently, anti-tobacco laws apply to all nicotine-containing products, including e-cigarettes, vapes and hookahs. Therefore, their use in public places and sale to minors are banned today. Advertising, promotion and sponsorship, and the sale of such products to minors are also prohibited. Current law prohibits the sale of nicotine-containing products with a nicotine concentration of more than 20 mg/ml.
